Patio & bi-fold door repairs
Sliding doors that drag, jump the track or won’t lock, and bi-folds that catch. Rollers, tracks, locks and adjustment.
Typical visit
Usually one visit. If your rollers are an uncommon type, we identify them first and fit them when they arrive.
AWhat you notice
- The door is heavy, grinds or rumbles when you slide it
- It jumps off the track or drags along the bottom
- The lock hook misses the keep, so the door won’t lock
- Bi-fold panels catch, won’t fold back flat, or drop at the end
- A draught or daylight down the side where the panels meet
BLikely causes
- The rollers (the wheels under the sliding panel) have worn flat or seized
- Grit, dirt or damage on the track
- The panels have dropped out of adjustment, so the lock no longer lines up
- Worn runners, top guides or hinges on bi-fold doors
CHow we fix it
- We replace worn rollers and set the running height so the door slides with light pressure
- We clean the track and repair or replace damaged sections
- We realign the panels and adjust the keeps so the lock engages properly
- Bi-fold runners, hinges, guides and locks adjusted or replaced
- Brush and interlock seals replaced where draughts get in
Worth knowing
Vacuum the track regularly. Grit is the main cause of roller wear.
Don’t use oil on the track, because it holds dirt. A dry PTFE spray works better.
Send photos of the door edge, the track and any maker’s name on the frame. They help us identify the rollers and lock before we visit.
Common questions
Can you repair old aluminium patio doors?
We specialise in uPVC, but we can often repair rollers and locks on aluminium sliders too. Send photos on WhatsApp and we’ll tell you whether it’s worth repairing.
Does the sliding panel have to come out?
To change the rollers, yes. The panel lifts out of the frame. It’s heavy glass, so please don’t try to lift it out yourself.
